As they made their way from LA to Sunnydale, the two former rivals were silent. Too much had happened between them and it prevented casual conversation. As Willow carefully navigated the car along the highway, they could both sense the loneliness and heartache that was within the other that mirrored their own feelings. Faith watched the redhead and she longed to say something to break the silence. But she wasn’t quite sure what she could say to someone whom she had attempted to murder because of her jealousy. There had been a time when Faith had been insanely jealous of Willow because of her friendships, and not just her friendship with Buffy, but all of them. Willow might not have been the most popular girl in high school, but the friends that she had were all loyal to her and would have done anything to protect her. In fact they had, when it came down to stopping the Mayor or saving Willow’s life, Buffy and the others had chosen Willow. And it hadn’t been a difficult decision, and at the time it had made Faith hate Willow even more. Now she recognized that hate for what it was, but she still didn’t know what to say to the woman beside her. And she longed for something to say, something to break the intense silence, and something that could express her regret for her actions. Instead she leaned over and turned the car radio on and searched for a station with loud and hard music, something that she could lose herself in so that she wouldn’t have to think about how she felt.
