Title: Motherless Child
Author: Sweetness (aaronlisa@gmail.com)
Pairing: none
Rating: FR15
Disclaimer: The Buffyverse belongs to Joss Whedon and company.
Notes: Set post-Chosen, mention of character death. “Motherless Child” is a traditional song; the lyrics I used were from Martin Gore’s version of the song.
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
A long way from home
Dawn had grown up and had left behind her old life of pain, sadness and bitterness behind her. She had finally accepted who and what she really was. It no longer made her angry that she was the Key and that she had lived in her sister’s shadow. She only regretted two things in her life. The first was that she had spent so much time wasting her life on silly and pointless teenage angst. And the second was that it had taken her sister’s death for her to finally realize that she was more than just the Slayer’s kid sister. Dawn finally realized that she was the Key and that alone made her powerful in her own right. Every time she got into a fight and she smirked at her enemy, she would feel a rush of power run through her. The feeling always intensified when she was in a battle with one of Buffy’s old comrades. How they had all managed to keep her from her true self for so long, she’d never know. But there was no way she’d return to a simpering life of delicacy where she whined and moaned about the unfairness of her false life. It’d only taken the loss of her mother and her sister for her to realize her true power.
