Title: Kind Words 1/1, FR13, Tara/Dawn interaction

Title: Kind Words

Author: Sweetness (aaronlisa@gmail.com)
Pairing: Tara/Dawn interaction

Rating: FR13

Disclaimer: The Buffyverse belongs to Joss Whedon and company.

Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] rileysaplank  who wanted this pairing and the theme of comfort. Set just after the events in “Normal Again.”

“But you don’t understand, in her world I don’t exist,” Dawn cried.
“Oh Dawnie,” Tara said quietly as she pulled the younger girl into a hug.
“I know she was forced to have me, but I thought she loved me!”
”She does, sweetie, I know she does.”
”Then why didn’t I exist in her ideal world? Mom and Dad were both together there.”
”Dawnie, nobody else from her life existed.”
“But Mom and Daddy were there, so why wasn’t I?”
“Do you really think that it was such an ideal world for Buffy?” Tara calmly asked Dawn.
“What?” Dawn angrily asked as she pulled back in confusion.
“You believe that it was Buffy’s ideal world, don’t you?”
”Yeah,” Dawn replied as she wiped her face with a tissue that Tara had handed her.
“Well ask yourself this, why was Buffy in a mental institution in her perfect world where none of her friends were real? Not only weren’t you real, but we weren’t either. Nor was Angel.”
”But…” Dawn started before trailing off as Tara’s words started to sink in.
“In the end, Buffy turned away from the chance of being reunited with your parents and having the normal life she wanted for the chance to be with us.”
”But of course, we’re real.”
”Sweetie, the magic that she was under was so powerful that I don’t think that Buffy really knew what was real or not. She choose to be with us, with you when she didn’t have to.”
Dawn sat quietly as she thought about what Tara had said. It still hurt that Buffy had only seen their parents in the supposed real world but perhaps Tara had a point when she said that in Buffy’s dream world she had created Angel as a figment of her imagination. Maybe it hadn’t been an ideal world for Buffy just because she got to see and hold their mother again.
“She saw Mom again and she could have stayed.”
“I know Dawnie, but she didn’t,” Tara said as she held Dawn close again and let her cry on her shoulder.
