Grissom always thought that it was ironic that the crime lab was rife with the supposed seven deadly sings, which often were the basis for so many of the crimes that the lab investigated. It wasn’t that he was a religious man, far from it as science ruled his life. Nevertheless, it was interesting for him to watch the people around him.
The most obvious of the sins was wrath. It was easily seen in everyone who worked in the lab. He had seen it on his own shift in the way that Warrick could snap at people when he put in overtime on a sensitive shift, or when Nick got frustrated with the evidence. Avarice was another easy one, especially since he could see it every time he happened on Conrad when he was looking around the crime lab as if he owned the place. Pride was seen every time they managed to crack a difficult case.
Surprisingly enough gluttony and sloth were the two sins that were usually never seen in the lab, or at least on his shift they weren’t. Grissom hadn’t seen either of the two sins, no matter how grueling or long the shift was, his staff worked hard and remained focus on their shifts.
Finally he thought about lust and envy and the one person that he associated with those two sins: Sara. He sighed at the complicated feelings that she caused in him and realized why he focused on insects instead of humans. Insects didn’t confuse him or make him wonder what his behaviour could be interpreted as. And perhaps his sin was the sin of avoidance because he felt that the longer he avoided the issue of Sara’s feelings, the less likely he would have to deal with them.
