Notes: An alternate universe following the events in “Lover’s Walk.” This part takes place during “Choices.”

 
            As Angel made his way through City Hall, he was disturbed by the relative ease that he was able to walk through the halls as he searched for Willow. He wasn’t sure if he was walking into an elaborate trap or if the Mayor had already killed Willow. He could only hope that he would find her safe and sound, and they would be able to get out of the building in one piece.
            He finally found her in a locked storage closet, however there was a rune engraved on the door. If it had been anyone else but Willow, Angel would probably have just tried opening the door. But it was Willow behind that door, and he could sense her fear. He growled in frustration as he tried to decide what to do. As he was about to return to the car to get Giles, Angel noticed a vent and he quickly decided that he would see if he could get into the closet that she was in without opening the door.

            Although Cordelia missed the Mayor’s heart, she did manage to hit him in the shoulder with a crossbow bolt. It had the effect of slowing the Mayor down, which allowed Faith to tackle him to the ground. Cordelia watched, as everything seemed to happen in slow motion. As Buffy shouted out to Faith, the brunette Slayer withdrew a wicked-looking dagger and sank it into the Mayor’s stomach.

            Willow was starting to feel extremely uneasy and sick to her stomach. She could sense that strong and dark magic had been unleashed into the small room that she was being held in. She tried to remember a spell that she could use to counter the magic, but she felt too drained to do so. Just as she felt that she was about to pass out, the grate for the ceiling vent collapsed on the floor in front of her. As Willow cowered into the corner, a figure clad in black jumped down in front of her.

            As Giles waited for Willow and Angel to come out of the building, he started to feel uneasy. He quickly scanned his surroundings and saw the reason for his unease. About ten feet away from his car was a group of seven vampires that were rapidly approaching him. Giles knew that he wouldn’t be able to risk taking them down as a group in hand to hand combat, which meant he had to stay in the car. Yet that would cause problems, as the car could only take so much damage from seven determined vampires. However, Giles refused to leave Willow and Angel behind, just as much as he refused to become a victim. He cursed under his breath as he put his foot down on the gas pedal.
