It was strange because he knew that he had died, but his memories were all mixed up and confused. He remembered Fred dying in his arms; at the same tine he remembered dying in her arms. Wesley knew that those two events could not have possibly occurred. But he still remembered those two conflicting events, amongst other impossible events. He tried not to think about his life before he had opened his eyes and saw the concerned faces of Faith and Buffy. His life had significantly narrowed to the two Slayers but his focus had increased. He was no longer concerned with Wolfram and Hart or Angel’s ongoing struggle to find redemption. Instead he was concerned with helping Faith and Buffy destroy the remaining agents of the First and ensuring that it would never break free of its prison again. It was anything but an easy battle and Wesley watched in silence as Faith and Buffy became harder, colder and more efficient at their sacred duty.

They made an unusual trio; then again Faith knew that when it had just been Buffy and her, they had made an unusual duo. Faith with her harshness and brunette beauty and Buffy with her soft, blonde California looks. She knew what they looked like together: soft and hard. But together they made a deadly pair against any demons. Then they had found Wesley and he had turned their pair into a three of a kind. Faith no longer wondered about Wesley and his resurrection. The only thing that she knew for sure was that he had been dead when she and Buffy had found his body. However, the more they had stared in shock at the first causality of Angel’s war against the Senior Partners, the more the wound that had killed him had started to heal. Then he had opened his eyes in confusion. Faith no longer questioned or doubted his presence; she accepted his calming influence with a quiet weariness. The further that they traveled together in Buffy’s quest to rid the world of the First and its agents, the more Buffy and Wesley grew closer together. It was the only thing she regretted about finding his body.

Death was truly her gift and it was something that she no longer feared. Not did she fear the fact that she was a predator just like the monsters that she was destined to fight. Her temporary defeat of the First had made her lose sight of what being a Slayer meant and she had spent several months living a lie. It hadn’t been until the others had brought the news of the new Slayers being attacked and killed to her in Italy that she had realized it. The news had broken her up but once she had realized the truth about herself, she had gone on a crusade. At first she had been alone, as she had hunted down the agents of the First and other threats to her Slayer Army. She had refused to listen to either Giles or Willow who had protested against her solitary mission. The she had found Faith one dark and wet night in Seattle. The brunette Slayer had pulled Buffy into an embrace for a passionate kiss. Instead of pulling away in disgust like she had when they had first met, Buffy had returned the kiss with passion and desire.
That night had changed everything for her as it had opened her eyes to who she was, what it meant to be a Slayer and what she was destined to do. Although she had thought she had realized all of that in Italy, Faith made her realize that all she had really done was realize that her life had been one great lie. And when she had woken up in Faith’s arms, she had realized that she couldn’t continue her fight alone, nor should she have to fight alone. As Faith had kissed her bruised and battered body, it had brought home to her that she might be a predator but she would never be capable of truly being alone. She needed to have at least someone else to fight at her side. So Faith had joined her in her nomadic wandering and sometime after that they had found the broken body of Wesley. When he had opened his eyes and taken a breath, she had been as shocked as both he and Faith had been, especially with the stench of death on him. She had been reluctant to take him along with them, but she had agreed to it for Faith.
Buffy had been surprised at the jealousy she had felt as she watched Faith fuss over her former Watcher. She hadn’t expected to find out that Faith and Wesley had grown close. After all, the last Buffy had heard was that Faith had cruelly tortured Wesley, yet the two of them had bonded since then and she hated seeing them so close.
She had invited Wesley to their bed in order to put emotional distance between the two. And although it had worked out when it had come to Faith, it hadn’t with Wesley. Buffy had seen longing looks that Wesley had cast at Faith when he thought that no one was watching. And she found that once she had invited him to her bed with Faith, she couldn’t just kick him out of it.

The night had started out normal enough with the three of them waking up in a tangle of limbs. Faith watched as Buffy’s face clouded with jealousy and anger as Wesley kissed her and ignored Buffy before he headed to the bathroom for his shower. Faith couldn’t understand what Buffy was angry about. It wasn’t as if Wesley paid her attention to Faith anywhere outside of their bed, not that he ignored her. It was just that on their patrols, he devoted his time and energy to making sure that Buffy was safe. Faith was able to take care of herself as far as he was concerned. She watched silently as Buffy stalked silently to the bathroom and she knew that she was going to have to leave.

They came back to the hotel tired, bruised and battered as they had found a nest of vampires and three of the Bringers. Although they had been successful in destroying the nest, it had worn them out, which had made the fights with the Bringers very dangerous.
“I never want to move again,” Buffy sighed as she collapsed onto the bed.
“Never?” Wesley asked suggestively.
“Well I’m sure that I could be persuaded,” Buffy said as she smiled at him.
“And what about you Faith, are you too exhausted to move?”
”No,” Faith said as she looked away from them before she continued, “I’m actually thinking of going to L.A.”
”Well we could always start heading that way starting tomorrow,” Buffy suggested.
“I was thinking of going alone.”
”Alone?” Buffy and Wesley asked at the same time.
“I wanna go there by myself. Angel needs me, you guys don’t.”
“But we do need you. I need you,” Buffy said as she stood up.
”Maybe you did when we met up in Seattle but you don’t anymore. And I feel like a third wheel.”
“You know that Buffy and I care very much for you.”
”Yeah, I know but I just gotta do this.”
“Why can’t we come with you?” Buffy asked angrily.
“Come on, B, don’t do this. I just need to go and help him. Things are still bad for him ever since he brought down the Black Thorn.”
”I think that it might be for the best. When do you leave?” Wesley asked.
“I’m catching the bus tonight,” Faith replied as she shot Wesley a relieved look.
“Tonight?” Buffy asked as her voice trembled showing the emotion she was feeling.
“Yeah, things are really bad and I want to get there as soon as I can.”
”You’ve been in touch him?” Wesley asked.
“Yeah, I couldn’t help it.”
”Will you come back?” Buffy asked as Wesley pulled her into his arms.
“You’re not gonna stay here forever. But I am sure our paths will cross again.”
“I suppose that you need to leave soon,” Wesley said as his voice cracked betraying the emotion he felt.
“Yeah.”
Faith took one look at her companions before grabbing her duffle bag before heading into the night. Before she could go very far, Buffy ran out to her. The two shared a look that spoke volumes; Buffy captured Faith’s lips into a passionate kiss before she turned back to the motel room where Wesley was standing in the doorway waiting for her. Faith smiled as she let the night swallow her up. In a way, she couldn’t help but wish that their paths didn’t cross again. She knew that leaving them would be hard but she had only realized just how much she loved Buffy. But she couldn’t cope with being in the middle again and she didn’t want to share Buffy with anyone. Not even someone like Wesley who she knew loved her.
