I am not the biggest Spike/Dawn shipper in the world, I think with the right author this pairing really works well.

This one was a challenge from [livejournal.com profile] goddess_loki and I used it to practice with dialouge and with Spike's voice, which I have a hard time with, rather than focus heavily on the actual ship itself.

Title: The Great Mistake 1/1

Author: Sweetness (aaronlisa@gmail.com)

Pairing: Spike/Dawn

Rating: PG-13

Disclaimer: The Buffyverse belongs to Joss Whedon and company.

Notes: Set post-Not Fade Away, Spike and Dawn have a conversation. Written for another challenge from [livejournal.com profile] goddess_loki .

Spike thought that perhaps that he was luckiest man alive. First of all, he was alive and no longer a member of the undead. No one had known what Angel had done to become a member of the Black Thorn. If they had known what Angel was willing to sacrifice, they would probably have tried to stop him from going after them. Angel had signed away his chance at Shanshu’ing, and it looked as if he had signed away his life by joining the Black Thorn. He had told Spike to enjoy his second chance before he had disappeared into the night following the battle that had killed everyone but the two of them. Everyone else believed that Angel had killed himself in order to destroy the Black Thorn, but Spike wasn’t too sure about that. Whatever the case was, Spike had taken Angel’s advice and enjoyed his second chance. The first thing that he had done was he had caught a flight to Italy, and raced to Buffy’s apartment. When the door had been opened, he had been pleasantly surprised to find Dawn on the other side. He had burst into the room and had lifted her up in his arms and kissed her. Then he had gone onto to shock the Slayer by completely ignoring her as he courted Dawn.
“What are you thinking about?” Dawn’s question broke into Spike’s thoughts.
“Just thinking about the past.”
“Good thoughts or bad thoughts?”
”A bit of both.”
“Anything in particular?” Dawn asked him hesitantly.
“Yeah about what allowed me to be with you.”
”And what was that?”
“My great mistake,” Spike said and smiled at her.
“Your great mistake?” Dawn asked.
“Falling in love with your sister.”
”That was your great mistake?” Dawn asked as she sat on his lap.
“Well if I hadn’t written such awful poetry, I would never have met Dru who eventually led me to your sister and Sunnydale, which gave me the chance at meeting you.”
“But how does that make Buffy your great mistake?”
”Because Pet, I wasted three years of my life pining over her, when you were there in front of me the whole time.”
”Really? Don’t you think I was too young for you at the time?”
”Luv, I was a vampire, we don’t get hung up on age.”
“Are you sure that you aren’t just making this up to avoid telling me what you were really thinking about?”
“I’m hurt, Pet, are you accusing me of being a liar?”
“No, I just think that you don’t want to tell me the serious thoughts you were having,” Dawn said before placing a kiss on his lips.
“Now Dawn,” Spike began after their kiss.
“Shhh… it was very sweet of you to say that,” Dawn said as she kissed him again.

I think you did a good job on this. With a bit more practice, you could end up a good Spike/Dawn writer.

Perhaps I just don't really feel that much one way or the other for the ship.
