Notes: Set during an AU Season Three, follows Best Friends.
Summary: Buffy knows there’s nothing she can to do change Faith’s mind.
There were bound to be changes in the both of them, after all, two years had past since Buffy had last spoken to Faith. It had been some remark about the prom before Buffy had burned the gym down. Now Faith looks at her as if she’s the worse person who ever walked the earth because she didn’t tell her. Buffy’s seen the ways that Faith looks at her friends and then at her. Looks filled with contempt and disgust, while asking her all the same: Why them and not me?
There’s nothing Buffy can say that will make Faith feel any better. Between the two of them stands Faith’s confession told to hours before Buffy found out about being a Slayer. Buffy’s pretty certain that Faith thought she had turned against her back in LA because Faith had come out to her. Too much time has gone by them for Buffy to be able to say that wasn’t a factor. And even if she could convince Faith that wasn’t the case, the fact that she didn’t have any problems telling her friends in Sunnydale about her secret identity stand in the way.
Buffy sighs before she enters the library where the others are waiting for her to discuss the current situation. For once in her life, she wishes that the Hellmouth would just open up and swallow her whole. Instead, she’s forced to hold her head up high and ignore the weight of Faith’s stare that seems to be boring holes into her. She acts as if Faith’s hostility doesn’t affect her at all.
