FIC: Fallen 1/1, FR13, Faith/Buffy

Notes: Written forjoss100 for prompt #36 (death). Set during an AU Chosen (BTVS 7x22).
Faith turned just as Buffy started to fall to the ground, she pushed the demon that she was fighting away from as she ran to the blonde. As she caught Buffy, Faith realized that the wound was very serious.
“Faith, you have to lead them,” Buffy said.
”No, that’s your job.”
”Not anymore.”
”But B, I can’t do this.”
”You have to, Faith. I know that you can,” Buffy sadly commanded. “If you don’t do this then everything that we’re all fighting for will be for nothing.”
”I know B, but I just can’t,” Faith quietly said.
”I know that you can. Please do this for me.”
”Okay.”
“Then let me go, and lead them Faith. Make me proud.”
Faith gently laid Buffy down and before she stood up and started leading their army of Slayers, she placed a kiss on the blonde’s cheek. There wasn’t time for tears or regrets, there was just time to fight the battle and make sure the girls didn’t fall. The next time that Faith looked over at Buffy, she saw that Buffy had succumbed to her wound. She wanted to yell and rage at the unfairness of it all, but someone had to lead the new Slayers. So she focused her anger in making sure that no one else was hurt.
