Mondays were always the hardest day of the week to get through, especially when there was a rumor going around the lab about their relationship. Neither Catherine nor Nick had planned to have a relationship, it had just happened. However, it wasn’t something that they wanted to deal with when they were working on a triple homicide. Yet it still seemed that their co-workers would rather discuss the relationship than the case. It was the last thing that either of them wanted or needed when Ecklie was watching Grissom and his team. All that they could do was deny their relationship and focus on their work.

They were still working the triple homicide and Catherine couldn’t remember a case that had been as intense as this one was turning out to be. As she put down her cell phone, she sighed in frustration at her mother’s impatience. Her mother didn’t seem to realize that sometimes the case had to come first and that Catherine couldn’t just leave work. As Nick quickly gave her a reassuring smile before turning back to his work, she suddenly felt better. Their relationship was the one thing that she could always rely on when things became too intense or difficult for her.

Catherine rubbed her arms as she shivered from the cold of the air-conditioned interrogation room. It was Wednesday morning and they had finally broken their case and the suspect had confessed, now they could go home. As she headed towards the locker area, she found Nick there waiting for her. He pulled her into his arms and held her close, they both wanted to kiss one another but it was too risky since they were still at work. Instead she relaxed against his warm body and listened as he made plans for the next evening when they could see one another with any interruptions.

”Hello?” Catherine groggily answered.
“Hey Boss, I’ve got an idea.”
”What’s that?”
”Breakfast in bed.”
”That sounds really nice, Nicky.”
”Good,” Nick replied as he walked into her bedroom with a tray of food.
”You shouldn’t have,” Catherine stated as he placed the tray on the bed.
”Yes I should have, the last couple of days have been really rough and you needed to be spoiled, so here I am.”
“Thank you,” Catherine said as Nick held up a strawberry to her lips.
“For you, anytime.”

Catherine stared at Ecklie in disbelief as he threatened her with the loss of any promotions in the crime lab over office gossip. She was astounded at the threat and she briefly wondered if Nick was worth risking her career over.
“Conrad, my personal life is just that personal. It doesn’t affect how I do my job.”
”Now Catherine, I’m not saying that it affects your work, but it does affect the lab’s integrity.”
”My relationship with a fellow CSI does not affect the lab.”
”I am only asking that you be reasonable.”
”I’m not going to give up a relationship because it makes you uncomfortable,” Catherine flatly stated as she left Ecklie’s office.
