Harry had fought against his feelings for her for so long because he knew that the attraction that he felt for her was wrong. He still saw her as his best friend’s girlfriend, even though that relationship had ended. Besides that he had a girlfriend, yet he still found himself fascinated by Hermione. Harry would find reasons to be close to her while he fought the attraction. It didn’t stop him from wondering if Hermione felt anything for him besides the platonic love that she showed for both Ron and himself. And Harry found himself wishing that circumstances were different so that he could act on his feelings for her.
