joss100 for prompt #16 (friends). Set during BTVS Season Three’s “Lovers Walk.”
In the past, he had always been able to depend on Willow for anything. She had been his best friend and he had always known that she loved him and that she was waiting for him patiently. However, everything had changed in the blink of an eye. He had started dating Cordelia while she had fallen in love with Oz. It had taken Xander a few months to realize what his feelings for her were. When he realized that he wanted her and that he was jealous of Oz, it was too late. He still couldn’t help the way that he felt, even now after everything that had happened. It broke his heart that all she wanted from him was friendship so that she could reunite with Oz. Xander knew now how blind he had been and now he knew what it had been like to have been loved by Willow. He didn’t know if he could go back to being just friends with her when he wanted more, but he had to. It was either revert back to friendship or lose her completely.
