Their search of the horcruxes didn’t leave them much time for anything other than survival. Ron and Hermione’s budding romance had failed to develop as they had focused their energy on Harry and his quest to destroy the Dark Lord and fulfill his destiny. And when it came down to it, Ron always had his family to lean to when things got difficult whereas Harry and Hermione had no one. They were both effectively alone in the wizarding world, since both their muggle families had gone into hiding following the murder of Dumbledore. Not that Harry’s family had ever been a great source of comfort for him. In the end, Harry and Hermione only had each other to turn to when things became difficult. When Ron would meet up with his family when things became difficult, they would turn each other for the comfort and love that they didn’t have. AT night, one of them would invariably crawl into the other’s bed and they would hold each other and pretend that things were different. They would pretend that they weren’t on the run from Death Eaters or that the three of them were trying to bring about the downfall of the world’s most powerful and feared wizard.
