stagesoflove for the third prompt: touch. Set post-war.
It had taken all of the Slytherin cunning that he possessed to come up with something that he could offer Hermione Granger. When Minerva had approached him to take over his old position as Potions Master at Hogwarts, Severus had decided to offer Hermione an apprenticeship. Unlike her two friends, she had not gone on to become an auror following the end of the war. He had heard a rumor that she had refused on the basis that she was tired of hunting dark wizards.
He had sent his offer and she had returned her acceptance almost immediately and she had arrived at Hogwarts in September with the students. Once he had her there, Severus was at a lost of how to approach her with his emotions. In the past, he had always been able to avoid emotional detachment nor had he had the time to become involved with women. His years at Hogwarts had been unpleasant and then almost immediately after his graduation he had become involved in the Death Eaters and then in the Order. His only concern had been survival and not romance.
As months passed by, Hermione became such a part of his life that he was unsure of how he had ever existed before without her. And he also started to wonder how he had never managed to see beneath the bushy-hair know-it-all exterior that she had presented during her school years. All of which lead to his fear for the future, how could he manage without her following the completion of her apprenticeship. By the time that the term’s end had arrived, Severus was feeling empty at the prospect of being without her company for a month while she returned home to visit her parents.
”Miss Granger,” Severus greeted her in reply.
“Yes, Professor Snape,” Hermione politely replied.
“I just wanted to wish you a good holiday.”
”Thanks,” Hermione replied as she touched his arm.
It was as if a live wire had touched him as he looked into her eyes, and he realized that she had had the same reaction by the gentle touch. Instead of being unsure of what to do, Hermione didn’t hesitate as she reached up and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. As she pulled back she gave him an enormous smile of delight.
”If I hadn’t promised my parents, I’d stay. As it is I’ve not seen them since Christmas and I should see them as promised.”
”Hurry back,” Severus uncharacteristically begged her.
”Of course,” Hermione replied before placing another brief and chaste kiss on his lips.
