joss100 for prompt #34 (rebirth). Set during ATS Season Four/BTVS Season Seven, during the “Orpheus” story arc.
Waking up wasn’t usually a painful experience for her; instead she had found that sleep and a Slayer’s healing abilities meant that she normally didn’t wake up in pain. However, there is always an exception to the rule, and as she slowly woke up, it was as if every nerve ending was on fire. There was a sharp stinging sensation along her neck and as she tried to open her eyes, she found everything to be a nauseating blur of indistinct colours. She quickly closed her eyes and groggily groaned as she tried to figure out what had happened. It was as if she was missing a few days from her memories. She could barely remember her fight with Angelus. It had been a long and hard fight and she could remember up to the point where Angelus had pulled her close for the kill. After that she couldn’t remember anything, but she knew that she had to be alive since she could feel the thudding of her pulse. As she struggled to sit up again, she heard the sound of rich masculine laughter floating across the room towards her. As the mocking sound caressed her skin and rang in her ears, she wondered what form of torture Angelus had planned for her.
“Look who’s awake, lover. Can I play with her now?”
”You know that I can’t resist you anything, darlin’” Angelus replied.
Faith’s eyes opened again as she struggled to make sense of the vision in front of her. It was less blurry and more distinct than when she had first attempted to look but it still seemed wrong. Angelus was standing in the doorway with a smug expression on his face as he intently watched her. She could accept the fact that he was there, but the sight of Buffy standing beside him with her face shifted into the cruel face of a vampire was almost impossible for Faith’s brain to grasp. The brunette realized that she would have to fight for her life. It was likely that the blonde still possessed her Slayer reflexes and abilities. Faith felt a sinking sensation in her stomach as she remembered that she always had had a hard time in a fight against Buffy when they were both alive and on an equal footing. As she attempted to stand up, Faith found herself face-to-face with Buffy.
”What did you do to me?” Faith asked, stalling for time.
”Nothing, it’s what you did to yourself.”
”What” Faith asked in confusion.
”That nasty drug that you tried to use on my Angel is still in your system. And now you’re gonna pay for trying to take what’s mine.”
”Get away from me,” Faith weakly said as she tried to push Buffy away from her.
”I don’t think so, Faithy,” Buffy replied as she pulled the brunette close to her by her hair, “The three of us are going to have so much fun.”
