joss100 for prompt #41 (watch). Set post-Chosen.
With the destruction of Sunnydale and the defeat of the First, their identities changed. Faith and Buffy were no longer locked in their struggle for dominance; instead they became equals in the new world that they had created with Willow’s help. They were no longer just Slayers; instead Giles forced them into new roles and new identities once they left behind the crater that had once been Sunnydale. As the two longest-living Slayers, Giles could not afford to lose them since he desperately needed their experience.
Faith hated her new role as a Watcher and teacher; she felt that she had been given a raw deal. She could only watch from the sidelines as she was forced to send out the girls who she had trained and guided to fight her battles. Faith wasn’t like Buffy, who seemed to have embraced her new life and role. Instead the brunette rebelled against her new life much to Giles’ and Buffy’s annoyance. She refused to accept the attitude that a good Watcher merely watcher their Slayer. In her mind, she had the experience and the ability to fight side by side with her Slayers so she did, because she refused to watch them die.
