I wrote these two together but I didn't really see the similarities until just now as I was typing them up. Both of these were written for fanfic100 as well as the last two. I've written about 15 drabbles since "Shattered" (ep410) aired so there'll be some more CSI: Miami drabbles coming in the next few days.
Title: Funeral for a Friend
Author: Sweetness (aaronlisa@gmail.com)
Pairing: none
Rating: FR13
Disclaimer: CSI: Miami belongs to Jerry Bruckheimer and company.
Notes: Written for fanfic100 for prompt #30 (death). Set just after Season Three’s “Lost Son.”
Death was something that they dealt with every single day that they worked. Very rarely did the team work on a case that didn’t involve homicide or attempted homicide. And although they all knew that every day that they went to work could be their last one, the reality of death and the possibility of their own death wasn’t something that sunk in until they had lost one of their own. Individually and as a team, working Speed’s murder was one of the hardest crime scenes for the team. Speed had been their friend and co-worker and it would have been easy for any of them to place him in a position of perfection because of his sudden and tragic death. However as they each worked the different elements of the crime scene, they were each painfully made aware of how human Speed had been. Losing a friend and a colleague in a job like theirs made each of them realize their own fragility as humans.

Title: New Kid in Town
Author: Sweetness (aaronlisa@gmail.com)
Pairing: none
Rating: FR13
Disclaimer: CSI: Miami belongs to Jerry Bruckheimer and company.
Notes: Written for fanfic100 for prompt #7 (days). Set during the first half of Season Three.
Ryan was aware of the circumstances that had lead to there being a position open in the Miami-Dade crime lab, but he hadn’t expected the level of hostility he was getting. Some people had accepted him with a limited amount of fuss, like Alexx and Calleigh had. They both seemed to realize that he wasn’t trying to replace Tim Speedle. Yet there were others like Eric who seemed to believe that he was trying to replace Speedle as co-worker and as a friend. All Ryan could do was his best and try to make it clear that he wasn’t trying to replace anyone.
