Xander thought of the things that Willow had told him about comas as he looked at Faith. It seemed to him that the brunette seemed so small on the hospital bed with all of the wires and tubes that were used to monitor and maintain her life. He knew that Willow had mentioned that talking to coma patients was important to their recovery but he doubted that anything he could say to her would help Faith. Hearing his accusations and bitterness towards her would probably keep her in her coma.
Faith had changed him in so many ways when she had carelessly messed up his life and he had just let her. He had been drawn to her power and danger in a way that Buffy hadn’t drawn him. At the time he hadn’t admitted his feelings for her, instead he left everyone believe that it was just lust between them. As he watched her motionless body, Xander sighed in frustration at the turbulent emotions she caused him, even in a coma.
He wasn’t about to fool himself like the others were and take responsibility for her downfall. Faith was like a force of nature: destructive, powerful and unpredictable. She might have stayed on their side if she hadn’t accidentally killed a man, but he doubted it. Living in Buffy’s shadow wasn’t meant for someone like Faith and she would have broken free regardless. Faith wasn’t one for staying still and following orders. He left the hospital room with his heart in tatters. Even motionless, she still had the power to destroy him.
