Giles had left the decision of what would happen to Faith following the defeat of the First to Buffy. The blonde wasn’t happy about being cast into the role of judge, jury and executioner. But her former Watcher had told her if she was serious about rebuilding the Council, she’d have to get used to it. So now Buffy was left with the painful decision of having to decide Faith’s fate. She could see how Faith had changed but every time she looked the brunette in the eye she could still see the murderer that Faith had once been. Part of her wanted to condemn Faith, while the other part of her wanted to forgive her like she had with Angel. Buffy sighed in frustration as she continued to weigh her decision. She had been able to make an easy decision when it came to Angel because the vampire had had a soul, which had made it easier to forgive him. Buffy had been able to look into Angel’s eyes and see the visible difference between the soulless killer that Angelus was and the remorse in Angel’s eyes. But Faith did not have that deciding factor in her favour; she had possessed her soul when she had gone on a murderous rampage. Finally, Buffy decided to send Faith to Cleveland so that the brunette could prove herself. It might have been the easy way out but at least Buffy wouldn’t have to decide to decide the wrong fate for someone who had actually found redemption.
