The worse part of the job wasn’t the crime scenes or the perps; Ryan soon found out that the worse part was the victim’s parents. He hated having to tell them that their child had been raped or murdered or sometimes both. It didn’t matter if they managed to solve the case and catch the criminal. At the end of the day, the parents of the victim always reminded him of the fact that there was a human element behind the crime scenes that they investigated. They might rely on science to interpret the evidence so that they could find justice for the victims, but it was that reliance that allowed him to forget that human element. However, when Ryan looked in the eyes of the parents and told them what had happened to their child, it always hit home.
