I've been going through a dryspell when it came to writing CSI in general, so I am really glad that this just came to me.
Title: The Pain of Loss 1/1
Author: Sweetness (aaronlisa@gmail.com)
Pairing: None
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: CSI: Miami belongs to Jerry Bruckheimer and company.
Notes: Horatio’s feelings about the events in 3x01 “Lost Son.”
Sometimes he grew tired of his constant search for the bad guys in the world. Or at least those that decided to come to Miami. Every day, it seemed like there was some new depraved monster in town that he was responsible for finding and helping to bring to justice. It never ended and although he normally didn’t have a problem with the job on most days. Today just seemed to be one of those days that were bringing him down more than normal. Then again it wasn’t every day that he lost one of his CSI’s in the line of duty, even if it was the CSI’s fault. He couldn’t help but feel responsible for Speed’s death. He had known that Speed was sloppy about caring for his gun. Even after Calleigh had lectured him about it. Horatio had hoped that Calleigh would have been able to get through to Speed about it, but obviously he had been wrong. He should have done something about it, but instead he had assumed that everything would be okay. And now that assumption, something that he would never have done on a case, had lead to the senseless death of one of his CSI’s.
