“Can someone else go back?”
 
            The question hung between them unanswered as Willow stared into Spike’s eyes as if the answer was hidden somewhere in them. The only sound was her breathing as she thought about it. Finally she broke eye contact with him.
“Yeah but it would be better if it was Buffy who did it. I mean its Dawnie after all.”
”What if Dawn’s blood had never been spilt in the first place?”
”What?” Willow asked as she looked at him in confusion.
“Well what if the ritual had never been started?”
”It might work, I don’t know though.”
”Wanna try it?”
”Spike doing a spell like this isn’t something to be done lightly. Nor can we just keep doing it until we get it right. It doesn’t work like that,” Willow said as she pushed Spike away from her.
“You sound just like Giles when you say that,” Spike said as he followed her to the couch.
“It’s true though. It’s dark magic and you just don’t mess around with that.”
”You think that I don’t know that?”
”Spike…” Willow began.
”Do you want to see all of those girls that you made into Slayers die because you won’t take the risk?”
“They were at risk before I did that.”
“Yeah but you know the First wants to destroy the Slayer line. And your spell made it easier for the First to do just that.”
“Don’t try to guilt me into doing this,” Willow said.
“You said it yourself that Buffy is willing to let the First win rather than harm Dawn. Well don’t you think that Dawn will come to more harm if we don’t try this?”
”It’s not that easy.”
”Yes, it is. If we prevent the ritual from occurring then Buffy won’t have to sacrifice herself and you won’t have to resurrect her and the First will still be imprisoned,” Spike said confidently.
“What about Dawn?”
”I don’t know, but maybe she won’t become a ball of energy if we do it this way.”
“Spike, she didn’t become a ball of energy in the first place because Buffy sacrificed herself. The Powers That Be let Dawn live because of Buffy’s sacrifice.”
“So you would rather risk her being destroyed by the First because you’re afraid she might revert back to being a ball of energy?”
“Yes.”
“But you’d let Buffy do it?”
”It’s her decision. Dawn is her baby sister. It should be her choice and not mine.”
“Bloody hell! Listen to yourself. You sound like you’d rather do nothing but bury your head in the sand and hope that this all goes away. You know it’s not going to though. We have to do something, with or without Buffy.”
“What about the Powers That Be? How do we know that they don’t want the First locked up?”
”I’m tired of being their soldier in a war that we can’t win. This might be our only chance to turn the side in our favour.”
”This isn’t some war.”
”Yeah, pet, it is. And I am sorry but you know Buffy won’t make the move she needs to because it might mean her sister will be expendable but we’re all expendable to Buffy in the end.”
”You’re saying this after you barge in accusing me of abandoning Buffy?”
”Well you did, and now I understand why. We can’t just sit still.”
”It’s not our choice to make.”
”Someone has to make it if Buffy won’t.”
