This one came to me when I was at work on Tuesday. I just can't believe that Darla never tried harder to convince Angel to join her and the Master during BTVS Season One.
Title: Siren’s Call 1/1
Author: Sweetness (aaronlisa@gmail.com)
Pairing: Angel/Darla, implied Angel/Buffy
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: The Buffyverse belongs to Joss Whedon & company.
Notes: Set during BTVS Season One.
Angel was tired from patrolling with Buffy and then patrolling on his own, and he looked forward to sleeping. He was not happy to find his sire in his apartment. Perhaps if she had come to him before Whistler had, he might have been tempted. But there had been too many years of rejection, isolation and loneliness where she had ignored him when their paths had crossed. And of course, there was the Slayer herself, Buffy made him feel as if he could find redemption for his sins both as Angelus and Liam. And perhaps even for the sins he had committed when his soul had been restored. All Darla could offer him was more sin and death. However he wasn’t surprised that she would try to convince him otherwise.
“Hello lover, you look tired,” Darla purred at him.
”Darla,” Angel greeted her coldly.
“Aren’t you happy to see me?”
”Not really.”
”You know, I’ve missed you,” Darla said as she stood up from his bed and approached him.
“Really and what have you missed about me? Certainly not my soul,” Angel said as he moved away from her.
“I missed you and I realized that I might have been hasty when I sent you away.”
”Perhaps if you had come to me before now, Darla, I might believe you. But how many times since China have we been in the same city and you have walked by me and ignored me or even sent your minions to chase me away?”
“I was testing you to see how strong you were with your soul,” Darla said as she moved so that she was standing right in front of him.
“Cut the crap, I don’t believe it,” Angel growled at her.
“Fine, you’re right but still why the Slayer?” Darla asked as she put her hand on his chest.
“Why not?” Angel asked.
”I think the fact that she’s a Slayer and you’re a vampire is a good reason for why not.”
“And I am a vampire with a soul,” Angel said as he grabbed her hand.
“And she won’t ever understand what it is like to have a demon or a thirst for blood, death and violence. You still drink human blood, do you think your precious little Slayer could understand that?”
”But you won’t ever understand what it is like to have a soul,” Angel said quietly as he started to squeeze her hand hard.
“A soul is an over-rated thing. How many humans with souls have made our actions seem innocent in comparison to their actions? And how many years did you have your soul and do nothing but live in alleyways on rats while demons and humans alike continued to wage violence on one another?”
”Too many years.”
”And you want to do good all for this love that you feel for Buffy, don’t you?”
”No,” Angel said quietly.
“Come on, Angel, you must have been lonely for so long. Vampires despised you for your soul and humans fear you for your demon. You don’t have to lie to me.”
”I’m doing it because it’s right.”
”And pretty, innocent little Buffy has nothing to do with it?”
”No she doesn’t,” Angel ground out.
“Perhaps but you know that she’s really just a scared little girl who can’t and won’t understand you.”
”Buffy doesn’t matter.”
”She’ll never understand you like I will,” Darla said as she pulled her hand away from his tight grip.
“That may be the case but you will never understand me either. Now get out.”
”You’re making a mistake. The Master and I are offering you a place again regardless of your soul. A place beside me where you belong.”
”And how many innocents will you destroy and consume?”
”No one is innocent. That’s a myth created by priests to fill their churches.”
“Just get out!” Angel raised his voice in anger.
“Fine but you will regret this.”
”Perhaps but I don’t think so.”
