Summary: Dean won’t talk about how he almost died.
Dean has never been one for what he calls “chick-flick moments,” even now after his father has died. He knows that Sam desperately needs to talk about their father’s death and Dean’s own brush with death. Sam’s need to vocalize his pain and emotion seems to hang over Dean’s head because he knows he’s failing his brother in some way. At the same time, he can’t break the silence that hangs heavy between them. How can he? After all, Dean can’t tell Sam their father’s final words. Nor can he voice his fear that John Winchester traded his life for his son’s. So instead he keeps silent and lets the pain and fears fester away on the inside because as long as he keeps silent, Sammy can remain innocent for a little longer. And all of Dean’s life has been about protecting Sam.
