As he weighed the heavy silver mask in his hands, Severus Snape had the uncomfortable fear of what he had gotten himself involved in. Pledging allegiance to the Dark Lord and even having the Dark Lord’s mark branded on his arm hadn’t seemed terrifying to him. But as he looked at the robes and silver mask that he would be expected to wear when he did the Dark Lord’s work, Snape felt fear trickle down his spine. What he had agreed to do seemed less about power and prestige than ever before. He could still hear Dumbledore’s voice in his ear telling him that he would never gain power and prestige under the Dark Lord. All he would gain from his loyal service and his life was the sin of doing the evil acts that the Dark Lord bade him to do. And as the shock that he had been the one to betray Lily Evans, the one girl who he had had feelings for, wore off, Snape decided to somehow make right the wrongs he had committed in his insane search for power that had lead to the silver mask in his hands.
