I swear I will have some CSI & Buffyverse fic to post shortly. I am just on a huge HP kick right now. I wrote this for [community profile] stagesoflove and it's the first in five ficlets.

Title: A Different Slant of Light 1/5
Author: Sweetness (aaronlisa@gmail.com)
Pairing: Hermione Granger/Severus Snape
Rating: FR13
Disclaimer: Harry Potter belongs to JK Rowling and company.
Notes: Written for [community profile] stagesoflove for the exploration of a relationship through the five senses. This was written for the sense of sight. Takes places sometime after the events in Half Blood Prince.
Word Count: 355

The sight of her standing above him with her wand at the ready and a feral look on her face as she stared down their enemies caused him to see her in a whole new light. Hermione Granger was no longer the bushy-haired, know-it-all Gryffindor that he had believed her to be. Instead she was an avenging angel who was scaring the Death Eaters surrounding them with her magic and her ferocious appearance. In fact, she was even scaring him slightly, he had never expected to see her in such a way. He was in awe that she was protecting him, despite everything that he had done to her and her friends. And what he had done to the Order and to Dumbledore. Yet she didn’t seem to care about any of that, instead she quickly accio’d his wand, which she then handed to him, all the time keeping their enemies back with a combination of determination and wandless magic. He was more than just impressed at her ability and her talent. But there was little time for them to share more than a glance as he pulled himself up from the muck and helped her to dispatch their shared foes before they turned and helped others. By the time the battle was over, they were quickly separated. She was taken to her friends and he was unceremoniously thrown into a prison cell where he was to await his fate and his trial. Still the image of Hermione as a warrior seemed to be embedded in his mind and it was surprisingly the one thing that gave him comfort while he waited for his future. He wasn’t quite sure why he had started to view her in such a different light than before, but in the end he knew that it didn’t matter how he viewed her. Even if he managed to survive his trial and was set free, he would never be able to offer her anything worthy. He was a broken and bitter man, and she was far too young for him despite the horrors that she had seen in her short life.
