Eric had always been trained to be highly observant and he knew that the team was getting annoyed with him even though they were doing their best to hide it. And he couldn’t blame them, since he knew that he’d feel the same way if it were anyone else behaving like he currently was. He wasn’t sure why he refused to say anything to Horatio about his sister’s condition. In a way, he was afraid that if he told anyone about her sickness that it would make it more real or that she would get sicker than she already was. Looking at her, no one could tell that she was so sick. It was easier for him to handle the irritation that his co-workers were feeling than it was to deal with their pity that they would feel once they knew the truth. And in the end, Eric found it easier to deal with that than deal with his sister’s illness when he wasn’t with her.

The storm had come on quickly as they had been re-working a crime scene in order to find crucial evidence that they might have missed the first time around. Ryan had quickly pulled her inside of the house as the rain had started, which had been followed by thunder. They watched silently from the patio doors as a grey light was cast over them. Calleigh leaned closer to him as the thunder sounded periodically. Each time it sounded as it the thunder was closer to them than the last time. As flashes of lightening flashed brightly before them, Ryan pulled her into his arms as she shivered in fear.
